Objectives

The Coalition for Access to Psychotherapy (CAP) believes that people with mental disorders, like those who suffer from other health problems, should have access to an optimal combination of services, treatments and support.  This combination of services should include medication and psychotherapy.

CAP foresees rallying public and governmental support towards the implementation of insured psychotherapy services.  The CAP initiative aims to ensure that:

  • individuals, of all ages, who suffer from a mental disorder and for whom psychotherapy services may be beneficial, can obtain them without regard to capacity to pay;
  • psychotherapy services in a primary care setting and in collaboration with family doctors and psychologists or psychotherapists be implemented according to evidence-based psychotherapeutic approaches;
  • outcome indicators are used to evaluate the impact of services, to inform decision-makers and clinicians and to help improve the organisation of services and clinical practice in mental health.
